Learning the ukulele
The ukulele is one of the smaller representatives of strums, which has recently become a very popular instrument due to its appearance, sound and size. Some classify it as a lute, it is also known as the Hawaiian guitar, as it originates from there. To Hawaii, sailors brought one of the smaller predecessors of the guitar from Portugal, which the Hawaiians took over and adapted in their own way - this is how the ukulele was born.
It differs from the guitar mainly in size and tuning, instead of six strings, the ukulele has, interestingly, only four. This fact and the tuning contribute to the unique and recognizable sound of the instrument. As usual, the body of the Hawaiian guitar is wooden, and the strings are now mostly plastic instead of natural materials.
In the Ukulele program, we get to know the instrument and its relatives, compare them and learn the fundamental differences between them, both in appearance, way of playing and sound. We learn the correct posture and playing with our fingers, and develop our hearing and feeling for music. We practice technical exercises that make it possible to perform songs more skillfully and easily. We encourage students to create their own music, learn to read musical notation, perform music by ear, play chords and popular compositions chosen by the student. We enable students to develop their own abilities and encourage them in the process, they also learn to play independently and play in smaller chamber ensembles.
