Learning saxophone - classical saxophone, jazz saxophone

The saxophone is a musical instrument that belongs to the family of woodwinds, although it has the characteristics of wind instruments as well as some of the characteristics of brass. The saxophone was designed by Adolphe Sax as a link between metal brass and mostly woodwind instruments. The musical instrument was created during the romantic period, somewhere in the middle of the 19th century, and what is also interesting is that it is one of the few that bears the name of its maker.

Generally, a saxophone consists of three parts, i.e. a mouthpiece with a reed, a neck and a body with valves. Depending on the length of the resonating tube and thus the pitch of the obtained tones, we know several types of saxophones, including soprillo, sopranino, soprano, alto saxophone, tenor, baritone, bass. Unlike other wind instruments, the advantage of the saxophone is that it can adjust the performance much better in all registers. The saxophone is especially known as a musical instrument that is part of an orchestra, or later in jazz music, where the saxophone itself often plays a leading role, and through this genre of music, many masters who are still known as virtuosos on the saxophone were trained.

THE PROGRAM

In the saxophone learning program, we learn about the instrument, its operation, its relatives and its history. We get to know the elements of musical notation and learn to recognize, write and read notes and different note values, we learn different pitches and the names of tones. The student learns the correct body posture when playing, the correct positioning of the whole body, hands and fingers. We learn to assemble the instrument, attach the mouthpiece and insert the tab correctly. We learn how to blow correctly and shape the tone, we get to know different rhythmic patterns and melodies. We perform various technical exercises, learn scales and play various compositions, which can also be folk, Slovenian authors or represent a special musical style. Students strengthen motor skills and their musical memory, form their musical taste and develop a positive attitude towards art. Their own creativity is encouraged, so they create at least one of their own compositions during the school year, and at the request of the individual, we perform and record a popular song chosen by the student. It is possible to participate in chamber groups, accompanied by a guitar or piano, and a school performance.
