Nina Ravnik Palka is a versatile artist who began her musical career as a music apprentice and began attending flute and music lessons at the age of six and a half. Her further education was led by flute professor Anđela Blažeka, who was an excellent mentor with her precision and sense of music. She connected the students to various chamber ensembles, so Nina played in various chamber ensembles, at various venues on various occasions. She performed most often in a trio of flutes, with which they regularly performed at municipal events, award ceremonies, ceremonies, institutes and elsewhere. In addition to the flute trio, Nina was a regular member of a duo with accordion, a trio with flute and cello, a trio with flute and guitar, a flute orchestra, a large wind orchestra and also a string or symphonic percussionist.
As a flute soloist during her schooling, she regularly and successfully participated in competitions here and abroad, where she achieved good results, including the Young Musicians of Slovenia competition, the Ithaka international competition and several international competitions in Italy.
Even more than competitions, she was interested in group work and cooperation, which is why she devoted herself more intensively to playing in orchestras. Every year, she performed with the flute orchestra in the Trnovska church in Ljubljana and at various magazines and meetings, as well as with the symphony orchestra, among others in the Polhograj manor house. As a flautist, she was invited to a large wind orchestra under the leadership of the excellent leader and conductor Jelena Brčarević, who led the orchestra at many festivals and events (a concert in Belgrade in collaboration with the local orchestra, a solo concert at the Varaždin National Theatre, the all-Slovenian brass band revue at the large stage of the Workers' Home in Trbovlje) and held many other successful concerts.
In the meantime, she learned to play percussion or drums under the guidance of experienced percussionist Matjaž Ogrin and worked as a percussionist with a string orchestra (Festival Radovljica). In addition to the flute, she also started learning the saxophone under the tutelage of Professor Oskar Laznik. In this way, she further enriched her musical knowledge and expression and developed an interest in different musical instruments, musical genres and ways of playing.
She has always been interested in passing on knowledge to the younger generations, so she began to direct her attention to teaching or researched this field in various ways. In addition to music, she also received an art education while studying at the High School for Design and Photography in Ljubljana - art high school, majoring in art. Her sense of art developed rapidly, as she was able to combine music with art, i.e. auditory with visual, and in connection with psychology researched how to bring new information to children in the most relaxed and fun way possible.
As an artistic director, she helped organize the SIFF music festival and organized various music and dance workshops. She participated in the creation of music for several children's theater performances, she co-created the music for the puppet-musical show Hrast iz Mesečev zalivo, in which Nina plays the role of musician and puppeteer. With the aforementioned performance, she performed at the Earth Day festival in several coastal municipalities (Piran, Izola, Koper) and at the well-known Trnfest festival in Ljubljana.
This was followed by the development of his own artistic creative group, which deals with music, puppets and theater called Zmaj Spnoj. In addition to being a musician and a puppeteer, Nina took on the role of the group's artistic director, and with the group they performed several contemporary original performances with elements of improvisation, and new works are already in the making. Together with a colleague from the group, they lead various creative workshops for children, which interweave music with the visible world, natural materials and education. The members of the group also continuously receive additional education and acquire new knowledge in various ways, such as by participating in various lectures and workshops, by actively researching the field, by reading quality literature, and by actively and critically monitoring the findings of various researchers in the field of art.
Recently, the duo with Anžet Palka plays mostly in the band, with whom they have performances and concerts at various venues here and elsewhere. They prefer to perform original music with folk motifs and elements from antiquity, but their program is varied and they adapt to the occasion and environment. Together, they are also designing new learning materials for music students to help them acquire new knowledge more easily and quickly. The first two volumes from the collection 1001 Songs (intended for guitar students) and several didactic aids and original musical games for the needs of lessons or learning music at home were created. She has created several musical plays and stories, as well as educational kamishibai for children.
Her creativity and dedication to work is evident in all areas, she knows how to pass on her knowledge in an original and interesting way; is a calm and patient person with an ear for art and fellow human beings, and at the same time open to new ideas and possibilities.
