Learning drums - classical drums, jazz drums, rock drums

A drum is a musical instrument classified as a percussion instrument, and its use goes back a long way. If we look around the world, almost every culture knows versions of drums that their ancestors used for ritual purposes and for healing, so many different types and shapes of drums are still preserved today, among them, for example, the very special shamanic drum.

DESCRIPTION OF THE MUSICAL INSTRUMENT

The term "drums" is usually associated with a musical instrument, which is also called a battery or a set of drums. This combines a snare drum, several passing drums or tom-toms, a pedal drum and various cymbals, including a pedal cymbal, all played by one musician. A musical instrument is certainly something special and indispensable in music, because in most musical compositions it takes care of the rhythm and is the basis of many compositions. The term percussion covers an even wider field, and drums, as mentioned, are known in many versions. A battery is a musical instrument consisting of several drums and cymbals, and it appeared at the beginning of fun and jazz music as an accompaniment to an orchestra. Its popularity grew rapidly and soon the instrument became an indispensable part of most popular groups in various genres of music, while at the same time offering the possibility of multifaceted expression and learning various skills. Drums are usually played with sticks or different percussion instruments, depending on what kind of sound we want to elicit from the instrument.

THE PROGRAM

In the drum program, we will learn about the drum kit, i.e. the battery. First, we will get to know all the key parts of this musical instrument and learn to name them, and find out what is the correct posture, how to position the whole body and hands. This will be followed by getting to know our first percussion instruments, these are wooden sticks, with which we will begin to learn the first rhythmic patterns. We will get to know musical notation or musical notation for percussion, learn to read, write and, of course, perform it. We will learn new motifs by listening and echo technique, and we will get to know rhythmic patterns typical of individual musical genres. In this way, students learn rhythmic listening, motor skills are strengthened, as almost the whole body works, concentration, self-confidence and perseverance develop, and above all, creativity, which is manifested in the creation of their own compositions. We also learn to perform popular compositions of the student's choice and occasionally participate in a music group.
